HOW THE MAGNETIC SLIDE WORKS
When a coin or bar is placed and released at the top of this magnetic slide, its speed of descent is uniquely determined by the type of metal that the coin or bar is made from. Size and shape do not matter. After extensive analysis and some inspiration as well, Dr. Doug discovered that the performance of pure gold and pure silver coins and bars is unique on this type of magnetic slide. The sliding velocities of gold and sliver are slower than any other metals that have densities equal to that of gold or silver, respectively. Knowing this, Dr. Doug deduced that if a coin or bar were first subjected to a size and a weight measurement (Steps 1 and 2) which determines density, one could then go on to unambiguously determine if they were authentic or counterfeit simply by testing them on his magnetic slide (Step 3). That is Dr. Doug’s 1-2-3 Method in a nutshell.
To make this test easy to conduct, Dr. Doug’s magnetic slide has two side-by-side chutes, one for a known authentic reference coin (provided with Dr. Doug’s Testing Kit) and the second chute for a coin being tested. If the test coin and reference coin slide down together at the same speed when simultaneously released, the only possible conclusion is that the test coin is authentic. On the other hand, if the test coin slides faster than the reference coin, it is counterfeit. Period! Absolutely definitive!

The silver reference coin can be identified by a blue circular label and the gold reference coin has a red label. (Since gold and silver have different speeds on the slide, a different reference coin is required for each material.)
